2. *~*~*~*~* ROLL CALL -- Name, family size, how many officially homeschooling - What are your Thanksgiving traditions? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - msjennbug 2 weeks ago (10)

Beth & JC with 6.5 kids, 4 officially homeschooling, 1cyber schooled and 1 in public school. Thanksgiving traditions: we celebrate two Thanksgivings 1 with inlaws and 1 with my relatives. (nt) - jakikoripiba 2 weeks ago

Lisa w/7. Two home schooled, 4 public schooled and one just hanging out. Just being with family and eating. We go to church and watch Planes, Trains & Automobiles (nt) - joyofsix 2 weeks ago

Jamie, 6 kids, 1 p.s., 2 homeschooled, 1 beginning home preschool (still organizing for him) and 2 infants...i make a big dinner here at my place, my il's come up, and sometimes my dad and step mom join us, i like not having to drive all over all the time and my sil (the one who does all the cooking for big meals) likes not having to cook all the "big" meals, to them it's worth the hour drive..oh we have katy every year for thanksgiving...her birthday is the 12th of november so it's when we celebrate that..we'll usually stop at my mom's on the way to bring katy home (mom is on the way) (nt) - serialmommy 2 weeks ago

Barb, 6 kids, 3 homeschooled, 1 starting some preschool stuff, 2 hanging out. Thanksgiving with family, probably at one of the great aunt's house. (nt) - dutch-dancer 2 weeks ago

Bonnie, 4 kids, 1 public school, 1 homeschool, 1 home preschool (just to give him something to do) and 1 hanging out. We don't have any family nearby, and we stayed home last year with a newborn and are staying home again this year. We'll roast a turkey and fixings. We always go around the table before we say grace and tell what we've been most thankful for this year. (nt) - Bonmomof4 2 weeks ago

Jenn with 8 - 6 officially in school. We don't eat traditional Thanksgiving foods. (nt) - msjennbug 2 weeks ago

Ok- so the next logical question is what do you eat? (nt) - zookeeper 10 days ago

Stacey with 6- 1 in homeschool, 3 in public school. This is the second Thanksgiving we are spending away from our families and the first we are going to be alone. Our tradition is usually to cook for the family, so I'm feeling a bit bummed. (nt) - zookeeper 10 days ago

Kim and Lee ...18wks pg w/7...homeschooling 3. Thanksgiving Day is always spent with dh's family (and lots of food and a total of 9kids 9& under!). We usually go to my mom's the day after Thanksgiving. :-) My favorite part is all the leftovers !!!! A pg lady's dream come true! ;-) (nt) - mother2many 10 days ago

4. *~*~*~*~* Monthly Goals -- What are you hoping to accomplish in November? When do you take off for the holiday? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - msjennbug 2 weeks ago (6)

Playing the catch-up game as usual. We only take off for Thanksgiving day. (nt) - jakikoripiba 2 weeks ago

We'll take off Thursday. Friday will probably be light. Reading, a math page and an educational movie or game. (nt) - joyofsix 2 weeks ago

keep them going and me to keep up on their board and making sure they have work to do each week...we'll probably take the whole week off for the holiday..we often don't have work to do until tue or wed, and they do all days of the week from the day i print it out til saturday... (nt) - serialmommy 2 weeks ago

to keep up the schedule through Nov w/o burning out! We take off the week of Thanksgiving - New Year's, traditionally - msjennbug 2 weeks ago

Hopefully the girls will finish their math books by/before Thanksgiving! If they do, we'll only have easy, peasy stuff to do during Dec - would be wonderful! We usually take Wed, Thurs, Fri off for Thanksgiving. (nt) - mother2many 10 days ago

5. *~*~*~*~* How are you doing with your goals and schedules? Are you where you want to be? Got a plan to catch up, if you're not? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - msjennbug 2 weeks ago (7)

Behind as usual.....I have a great schedule, just wish I could stick with it. Only plan I have is just to keep plugging along. (nt) - jakikoripiba 2 weeks ago

Pretty close to on schedule but I'd always like to do more. Or have ds be willing to work harder. (nt) - joyofsix 2 weeks ago

i don't really have a schedule, i'm just trying to keep them going and learning... (nt) - serialmommy 2 weeks ago

Goals? Schedule? I wish! I've been playing catch up since the day we started, 6 weeks into the school year! We're not really behind, I just feel overwhelming pressure to keep all the balls in the air, school, housework, cooking, etc. (nt) - Bonmomof4 2 weeks ago

Me too! I keep thinking "I'm not cut out for this!" because this "one more thing" is making everything so much harder to juggle. (nt) - zookeeper 10 days ago

We're doing ok with all that. I'm struggling to keep them motivated, and I find myself getting frustrated easier. I just want them to hurry and get done, but I know we need to keep our pace steady, so they'll remember it all. ugh! We're technically "behind" but I'm not worried about that, I just have to stay focused on where they are now. (nt) - mother2many 10 days ago

6. ideas for non verbal preschooler - serialmommy 2 weeks ago (10)

My ds is blind in one eye due to lazy eye we didn't know about (m) - joyofsix 2 weeks ago

I agree with this.... - jakikoripiba 2 weeks ago

we did speech therapy... - serialmommy 2 weeks ago

I don't have any advice about preschool, but I have a stubborn 3.5 yr old ds who is now potty trained! - Bonmomof4 2 weeks ago

he won't wear the diapers anymore.... - serialmommy 2 weeks ago

See if your library has the book "The Out-of-Sync Child has Fun." A bit overwhelming, but lots of sensory activities there. (nt) - laurata 10 days ago

My daughter was nonverbal until 3...... - shannoncp 12 days ago

I have a 4yo ds (turned 4 in June) and we haven't started anything formal with him yet. He's still not ready to sit for very long. But...(m) - mother2many 10 days ago

I'm not currently hsing my language delayed 4 yo, but we're working on concepts (locations, size, color, and so on). Nothing formal yet. (nt) - laurata 10 days ago

7. do any of you have suggestions of a good reading cirriculum for an ADD/borderline asbergers child (nt) - mom2twelve 2 weeks ago (6)

i make ours up as we go, it seems to hold his interest that way...are you looking for english activities like grammer and punctuation and what not or actual reading, like books? how old is he? (i'm assuming it's one of your boys)...james really likes books by judy blume and beverly cleary, the encyclopedia brown series, and the captain underpants series (nt) - serialmommy 2 weeks ago

Yes it is my 9yo son. I am looking for actual reading I use BJU press and he is interested in the stories but gets overwhelmed with the comprehension questions and the length of the stories (nt) - mom2twelve 2 weeks ago

Also I never thought of using his series books as his reading curriculum (nt) - mom2twelve 2 weeks ago

i think using the series books works well because you know he already likes the characters so it's a bit easier to keep his attention...not to mention, they are pretty easy for an adul to read through so you can prepare what you want beforehand and stay ahead of him that way (nt) - serialmommy 13 days ago

Not sure of his reading level but my 8yo is reading the Sonlight intermediate 2 books. He could read higher but gets frustrated if it's hard (m) - joyofsix 2 weeks ago

8. Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations for a writing curriculum for 8th grade? (m) - magnificent7 2 weeks ago (5)

IEW - Institute for Excellence in Writing. (nt) - msjennbug 2 weeks ago

Thank you. I did look into this, and it looks good. Unfortunately all the seminar cds and everything are just not in our budget right now. =( (nt) - magnificent7 last week

I'll ask my Tia how important that part of it is, b/c she's just started using it FT with her co-op class and I'm pretty sure she didn't go to any seminars, etc... - msjennbug last week

If you are an English major you shouldn't need the seminar CD. - msjennbug 12 days ago

9. Lapbook ideas for 3rd grader??? (m)... - mother2many 10 days ago (4)

I'm going to use the following resources for my 3rd and K. I'm thinking you could have her do some independent reading and draw and write about what she learned. My ds doesn't like writing but will draw or paint a picture with an explanatory sentence. Or I'll make him a list of vocab words the K doesn't have to do. - joyofsix 9 days ago

Thankyou so much Lisa! That is a great website and I'm excited about starting some of those books and projects with the girls - it's perfect! :-) (nt) - mother2many 2 days ago

You're welcome. Don't you love it when someone else has put that all together for you, lol. I sure do. (nt) - joyofsix yesterday, 01:40AM

10. Idea/suggestions for science and history please...(m) - mother2many 2 days ago (4)

For History I use life pack 4rd grade for my 8 yo twins and10 yr old boy. It is a good overview curriculum. It does have alot of geography in it and they love that but that can be overwhelming to some. But it does cover early exploration of all kinds land sea and space. HTH (nt) - mom2twelve yesterday, 01:02AM

Here are some websites that you could check out.... - jakikoripiba yesterday, 01:24AM

I don't know about lapbooks specifically. My 8yo likes Story of the World and I print off color pages or maps as needed (m) - joyofsix yesterday, 01:39AM
