Caroline, 36, with 6 kids...I love everything about October as long as it stays fall-like an winter holds off until late November/December. I love the crisp fall days, the smell of leaves burning, the leaves changing color, the rustling of leaves in the wind or when critters scurry by, pumpkins and jack 'o lanterns, and just everything. Fall is my favorite season!

Great idea, I've been looking for an advent calendar for a while and can't find anything I like. When I was growing up we had one made of felt. I might go that route. Ours had different symbols for each day that were pinned up, no candy though. Good luck!

Question for you all: My 2 boys are 11 1/2 years apart -- Would you save clothes that long? Or pitch them and buy new?
(nt)
-
wantabunch
Alison, that is a really long time to save things. My oldest two girls are six years apart and I have trouble with things working out when I save them. If I were you I would save any coats, snow suits, dress clothes (like pants, shirts and suits), holiday clothing, and maybe some basic things like jeans if they are not really worn out. Maybe limit yourself to one small to medium size tote box as long as you have the room to store it.
(nt)
-

I have boys who are 8 years apart. I've saved jeans, t-shirts that are in good condition, thermals & pjs & coats, (m)
-
Denise1066
I have 10 years between 2 girls and I've just kept the more expensive items to replace and some absolute favourites. I'm in a slightly different position I think, as the clothes have already been through quite a few girls before it gets to the 12 year old. So to store them for 10 years until the 2 year old is ready for them is a waste as stains appear and elastic deteriorates in storage.
(nt)
-
duedrop
i save the clothes...katy is 12 now, jayden is 7..jayden is just now going in to clothes katy wore about 4 years ago...it's a huge saver on the budget...i won't be able to do the same for james and izzy, james just wears them too long and izzy is a big dude, but i do have stuff from izzy that i have saved for jack, and they are 3 1/2 years apart...and jayden's stuff (even the carry overs from katy) will be saved for abbey..i do add to the stuff with with each kid with new or gently used items

I've never operated on a set budget. I buy my meat in bulk from local farmers. I also buy eggs from a farmer. Most everything I buy at the store I buy in bulk when at the lowest sale price. Weekly to bi-weekly I buy milk & bread depending upon how fast they go through it.

i try to have one...this month i'm going to order angel food, and we'll pick it up on the 24th, which is usually when our spendable income gets a little tight because of other bills that are due around that time so the food pantry gets a little lean...if my freezer were fixed, i'd stock up even more, i really want to cut out even more convenience foods than i already have

It looks like a good plan Alison. It's hard when it comes unstuck a bit when you're not feeling well. I think you just need to pick the most important thing on your plan to do on days when it all looks too much. If you get that 1 thing done, you'll still feel satisfied and if more is accomplished, you'll feel even better! I'll give you a rundown of mine later, I have to pick up kids from school soon.
