Do any of you believe food cravings indicate anything meaningful?
-
Dbaas
11 days ago (10)
I've even had cravings before for things I hate ... like milk. Seems like I'm needing calcium when that happens. Or when I seriously crave protein rich foods. If you are craving something, I think your body is telling you it is deficient in something.

I've developed allergy issues! Have had just drainage down the back of the throat and that caused me to cough. After talking with my OB yesterday she thinks it's just allergies and said to try Benedryl or Tylenol sinus etc. Started taking Benedryl slept much better as much less coughing but now I'm stuffed up. Guess I'm gonna have to get a decongestant/antihistamine to feel better. I just hate to take anything while pregnant!

Not in a million years. Can you imagine choosing a boy or a girl--and then have such a high ideal about what it must be like to have that particular sex in your family--and then the child not living up to it? Man, that would be some disappointment. How would parent or child ever live it down? The grass is always greener until you move to the other side and it's your lawn. No.......our children are decided for us by design. It's so dangerous to play with nature that way....
(nt)
-
laurazim

I can imagine choosing a particular gender. I don't see anything dangerous at all with it. Technology has allowed so many things to happen that couldn't in the past, like fertility treatments. And not everyone believes in devine design.

We use Bumgenius 3.0's, and we just take a wetbag with us when we go out, so no need for disposables. We used newborn disposables--buy one small package for the first few days, and by the time they're gone, so is the meconium. We also really love the time of hibernation, but I do love going to Mass as soon as I am able. I just wear the baby in the sling and keep them close and covered, and I've never had a baby get sick from just being out with us before. Colostrum and breastmilk really boost their immune systems.

Wet bags???
(nt)
-
mother2many
A wet bag is a water-proof bag, nylon or a PUL material. Some zip or snap closed, some have draw strings--they contain the soiled diapers in your diaper bag. They're widely available online and generally cost less than $15, depending on what size you want. You can also recycle plastic grocery store bags for this purpose--take two with you; one for wets, the other for dirtys.

Yep I know sometimes I'll think, has the baby moved lately and then the hiccups start up!!! Definately reassuring!!

My oldest, now 13, had the hiccups constantly in the womb. To this day, she still gets the hiccups at least once daily!!

How funny! My kids get hiccups abit but not daily!!! But they don't bother them even now, they just go with the flow with them!!

My Maddie is the same way. She is so used to them, she only really notices if she's gone most of the day without them!

This one has it from time to time but I wouldn't say too terribly often. He sure does kick the crud outta me though! I remember our older girl having them ALL the time.

carseat questions.. Is it truly bad to buy a used one? What should we avoid? I was excited that tonight we were finally going to do somethng to get ready for baby (went to a carseat safety check that had seats at cost). But walked away empty handed - shocked at the prices of carseats.. (the only new carseat we ever had was with our 9 yr old) Baby will be here within 5 weeks.

I know we need to avoid carseats that are old or ones that have been in an accident.

I personally wouldn't buy a used carseat, you can never truly know it's history (m)

Shannon, are you looking for an infant seat or convertible? I'll help you look online for a deal... Sometimes fire departments offer a deal too, give them a call.

Yes! Many hospitals have free carseat programs, as well!

I bought one at a neighbors garage sale and 3 of my kids have used it since then...(more)

If the carseat belonged to your neighbor and you knew it hadn't been in an accident, that's fine. Otherwise, I have to disagree about buying used (for carseats only)--you need to know the history. Also, manufacturers claim that the plastic begins to break down after 5 years so you shouldn't use one older than that.

We're looking at a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio carseat tomorrow a.m. (for $20) that I found on craigslist. We were actually at a fire department's carseat safety thing last night and they had seats available, but I didn't like the only one that was in our price range (plus, it was a couple of years old already - a demo model). We are looking at infant seats. thanks, all for the help.

The cheapest new one I see online costs $55 @Sears. Have you considered using a convertible so you don't need to buy a new seat when baby turns 1?

I have that infant seat and have loved it! I usually buy new for each baby but ...that one fit our needs so well, I ended up using it again and getting a new cover from ebay (m)

we bought a used one from someone in our parenting group - I trusted that it hadn't been in an accident like she said. I probably wouldn't buy used from anyone though.

even though mine used to return right after baby dropped one feeding (about 4-6 months pp), with my last it didn't return until about 2 months after complete weaning, even though i had signs the whole time... so, it could still happen :)

thanks, amber. there's just a lot going on and i am expected to be the one to take care of it all... some of this stuff isn't even stuff that i SHOULD be responsible for, but people keep pushing responsibility off on me... i'm just having a hard time holding it together, and this pregnancy has just been so stressful that i'm being pushed over the edge... i just wish that people would at least acknowledge that i am carrying a child and that i should not be the one to "help" them through whatever their crisis is at the moment...thank you for caring. at least here i can vent without hurting s/o's feelings. you guys haven't done anything... you're great! :)

(((Great BIG hugs, Kelly))) and lots of prayers. You really need to focus on yourself and your babies right now. Saying "no" to them won't make their world fall apart, I promise. If all else fails tell em' the doc said so. I'll call you soon...OR you could make a short trip north and come visit me - would be a great way to unwind! ;-)

i would lvoe to say NO... or rather H#!! NO! to them... but they are so manipulative and deceitful and threatening that i feel like i HAVE to comply... i hate feeling that way. i know that i need to focus on me and the babies right now, and today everyone else around here found that out too (LOL). man, i would lvoe to come visit, but with money the way it is, it isn't even possible. just keep us in your prayers. things have been really really rough lately.
