Kate with 4 kids...I don't host Thanksgiving so I don't have to worry about it too much. This year I will be making some sort of vegitarian dish and a pie to bring to MIL's...I am bouncing some ideas around in my head but haven't decided yet what they will be.

4 seasons but it's pretty dry. Winters are usually around 40 most of the time, with snow a couple times that doesn't usually stick more than a few hours. Spring is variable with rain. Summers hot 90-100, Fall is nice and cool.

We definitely have four seasons in Indiana complete with hot and humid summers, blistery and snowy winters, and beautiful and mild springs and falls.

Ummm. Nope...In Texas (well, near the Gulf) we have hot and less hot. That is about it! Because we are so close to the Gulf, cold fronts fizzle out by the time they get here. Other parts of Texas get more seasons, but we don't....

I love Spring because I love the tulips and watching everything turn green and come alive again. I also love planning the garden. I love fall because of the harvest/bounty of the earth, watching the leaves turn pretty colors, and back-to-school. Summer & Winter are too hot/too cold.

I live in IN where we are known for having all four seasons but also where weather can change at the drop of a hat. I love Spring and Fall much like Alison said. Right now we're enjoying a very mild November which I love. I wish it could be this way most of the winter with just a few days of cold and snow so the kids can play.

We used to have the biggest display in our neighborhood. We would start putting them up at the end of October/beginning of November depending upon the weather. Over the years, many of our decorations have been damaged by wind, worn out, and several were damaged two years ago when we had a mouse infestation in the garage. Last year, we barely put anything up the week of Christmas and the tree we got was total crap. Hoping for a much better tree this year at least. Don't know if I will get any outside decorations put up as I will be finishing up course work for this semester through the middle of December and getting ready to student teach in January.

Has anyone ever been on blood pressure meds? I am a relatively healthy 36 year old. I've been having headaches with no other symptoms. Went to a medical clinic over the weekend. My bp which normally runs at 100/70 was 140/90. The doc attributed the headaches to elevated bp and put me on lisonopril hydrochlorothiazide. He added fiorinal for the headaches and loratadine (which I guess is like Claratin). I have never taken more than the occasional antibiotic or headache medicine, so this is very overwhelming being on all these meds.

Yes. I'm 35 and have been on them since my late 20's. If you have any thoughts of wanting to conceive, you want to take a bp med other than lisinopril, though.

My doc didn't consider meds until I'd had several elevated readings - and this was a couple of years after #5 was born. (I wasn't on any bp meds with my first 5 pgs.) Sorry about no insurance - my dh lost his job 7 months ago, we are lucky to have the state medical assistance. Will you get insurance soon - or would you qualify for help?
(nt)
-

The kids are on the state insurance, but I think my DH makes too much money for us to qualify. But we can't afford his employer's insurance either. So, he & I will probably without until I finish school next summer and hopefully get a job with the school systems. I'm going to stop somewhere and check my bp today because I'm feeling really shaky and lightheaded all the time now. A nurse I know told me to watch for those signs that the meds are making my bp too low.
(nt)
-
ckmom
I just posted over at TOK - I am appalled that he would put you on meds after only ONE high reading. Headache meds, yes, BP meds no. There are so many reasons for headache and so many side effects to BP meds. I wouldn't take them unless I was sure I needed them.

How much do you spend per child at Christmas?
-
Robin5kids
10 days ago (5)
I don't worry about how much I spend, I make sure everyone has the same number of presents under the tree. I usually shop and try to find deals so I may have only spent $10 on it but it's worth way more. I've just never stressed over the dollar amount each. I know people who do that and it has to be the exact same amount on everyone but I just worry about the number of presents. Everyone has the same to open, of course my oldest is turning 7 so once I have a teen things may be different I don't know.

Yay, "Table for 12" is back on! I loved that show and missed it when J&K+8 came back and it went away...noticed last night it's on again and my DVR is set!

At my moms group yesterday we made some of those tied fleece blankets for our county's children's shelter...(more)

Go to the fabric store to get fleece, they often have remnants on sale, then you just cut them to the same size and tie them like you did yesterday. $20 does seem quite high!

I looked into making those blankets with my Girl Scouts, and I never found fleece cheap enough. The average price ON SALE in local stores is $9.99 per yard. I found an online store where it was about $6 a yard if you bought a certain amount. Considering the amount of fleece needed for each blanket times the number of girls in my troop I decided it was not economical. It is crazy that fleece costs so much when you can get fleece blankets in stores so cheaply.

Hancock Fabrics has fleece on sale right now, if you have one near you. If you got a solid and a print to tie together and they were 1.5 yards each it would cost about $13.50 and you would have a blanket that is 54 in. by 58/60 in. Which may still be too expensive, but it is cheaper than the $20 or $40 that your moms' group made.

Rushing out the door for school, but I was obsessed with Star Wars. I went to see it at our local movie theater and drive in at least five times when it came out. And, I was soooooo excited when I got the movie on LP record for Christmas. I opened it before my mom got up and ruined the surprise!

I'm very relaxed about this I guess, usually by first grade. My now kindergarten 6yo went to all week church camp last summer. I do know the families and my 17yo was a counselor at camp. I have sleepovers here often with kids friends.

For us it isn't as much about the age of the child as it is about how well we know/trust the parents. Other than that the only thing we worry about is if we think the child will make it the whole night without wanting to come home.

For us it is about how well we know the families too. My girls always have sleep over birthday parties from age seven and on, and I am very involved at the school. I get to know the families well enough that I am comfortable. If it is a family I do not know, then the answer is no for any age.

We don't do sleepovers. 1 in 4 (or 1 in 3 depending on the source) girls are sexually assaulted by the age of 18. sorry. grim, I know. But the vast majority are by people they know.

This is one of the reasons I said no. We have a child molester in our neighborhood. He is the father of a little girl the same age as my daughter. He had pled guilty to molesting a little girl from another family the same age as his daughter. He hasn't been sentenced yet.

Nothing ever gets done here because of how busy I am with school and how busy DH is with work, but I have got to start thinking about Thanksgiving. I had a family meeting with some of the kids yesterday about whether or not they are going to voluntarily pitch in to get the house presentable. My brother may be bringing his new girl friend home for the first time.

Very strange that I remember picking cookies up in the cookie mom's garage, but I don't remember selling them. I remember wearing my uniform to school, vague glimpses of meetings and ceremonies, one ice skating trip, one day camp trip, and the mall lock-in. They are all just like snapshots in my memory though. I can't remember anything vividly or completely.
