Ds 9yo....Not a speech impediment, but speech/learning disability....he gets speech therapy once a week for 2 hrs.

oh where to begin.... dh stuttered as a child and had 5 years of speech therapy, Ds#1 speech delay and therapy, Ds#2 speech sensesory issues and therapy, Ds#3 mild speech delay - no therapy, Ds#4 no delay - no therapy, Ds#5 severe speech delay - therapy until 5, had noddule removed from his vocal cords through surgery, needs more therapy and repeat surgery but I am delaying it...

Our 2yo has to go to speech b/c he was a delayed speaker. He's doing so well now - went from maybe a 5 word vocab to now 2-3word sentences and he's only been in speech since Sept! :-)

I had a terrible lisp as a child. Was in speech therapy for 2 years and that corrected it. Though, every now and then I can slip back into it. Most of my kids have needed speech for slight speech problems, and my autistic son continues to get therapy for delays.

james and izzy...james is a slur and he still speaks so quickly and slurs everything...i'm told it's an aspie thing...izzy just doesn't speak much...they both had speech therapy for a while, it never really made a difference as far as i can tell

Yes, Ben had a bad stutter from abt 2-4 and was in speech therapy up until 5th grade. Olivia just started speech therapy a couple months ago. Don't know where they got these problems, not from me!

My triplets had speech therapy starting at age 2 for several years because they had their own "language." Only they understood it, but they successfully communicated among each other. I would sit outside their room and listen to them talk for 30 min at a time. It was amazing!

My oldest daughter had speech therapy for just a few months when she was two. She really was only saying "mama" and "dada" at that point so there was some concern. I think she was just a late bloomer, she spoke perfectly by three!

9 yr old DD just "graduated" from 2 1/2 yrs of speech. The speech therapist said she needed it for mispronunciation of her "s" and "z." I never found anything wrong with her pronunciations, but she liked speech class so I let her go.

True Accent - NO! but I do have bits and pieces (words, phrases, and etc. where an accent shows up). because I have lived in Western Mass, Southern New York, and now Central Maine...

I've lived in the south all my life and can pull it out when needed, but I've had people from the north tell me I have a northern accent. So???

i live in michigan, the mid-west/great lakes areas are known for our lack of accent, it makes us distinct that way...and we over ennunciate as a general rule, it's why telemarketing firms liked to set up shop out here, well until they figured out that they could pay people in india a lot less

I do not think so because I live in such a big city, but my friends from New Jersey and Wisconsin tell me otherwise....I also think that I avoided having a Texas accent because I was raised by adults with a New Jersey accent. So, the blend helped... :)

I don't think so. I do find myself unintentionally picking up accents when I am around people with heavy regional or foreign accents.

i type much worse (when i'm posting on boards and in instant messenger) than i speak...i've always said that if you sound like you are stupid, people will assume you are stupid, so as a general rule we are very careful to make sure everyone speaks "correctly"
