Caroline, 36, with 6 kids...four kids each got a pumpkin full of candy but there is not much left (maybe one pumpkin full). We have ALL been eating it. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

jenn, 36 with 8.5. Too much, but not nearly as much as there was before the weekend. (nt) - msjennbug 5 days ago

Alison w/4 kids. Way too much candy. Being eaten at way too fast a pace. (nt) - wantabunch 5 days ago

Kathy (39) with 10 kids. No candy here. We don't do halloween, but DH bought some for Sat night and the kids polished it off pretty quick, lol! (nt) - duedrop 5 days ago

Kelly, 34, 5 kiddos, WAY too much candy here - we always wind up with a ton. I usually wind up sending a big bag full w/ dh to give the guys at work. (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

What really gets to me though is all the candy wrappers that wind up in the laundry! And most are probably from dh's pockets! (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

Christine with 7 and a bowl full of candy (nt) - Christine 5 days ago

Julie (36) with 7 kids TTC #8 LOTS Of candy here.....let them keep some, then tucked the rest away in gallon size ziplocks to use for pinatas or goody bags (nt) - Julieworkingon8 5 days ago

That is a fantastic idea!! TFS! (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

Sally (25), nky. I don't have any, but I don't know about my housemates. (nt) - mini-mug 5 days ago

Barb, 37 (my birthday was on Halloween), not much candy left, we've been busy eating it. (nt) - dutch-dancer 5 days ago

Jamie, 32, and none...my sewing machine broke at 9 in the morning on halloween so i was unable to finish costumes (there wasn't much to do anyway) and it was COLD here at 44 degrees with a wind chill of 36, so we stayed home...jason said that next year, we'll have a little party instead (nt) - serialmommy 5 days ago

Megan, 27, 1 baby, all we have is the bag I got on clearance yesterday. But next year Ginny can go trick-or-treating and I'll be eating much of it! (nt) - Imzadi 5 days ago

Michelle (39) & Martin (40) w/ 5B, 0G, & ^6^s. Candy, I am no longer sure how much is around. I do know that the small frig freezer is full. (nt) - SevenMs 4 days ago

Bonnie, 40, 4kids, 3 pumpkins about 1/3 full each. DH (at my request) hid the candy we had left over for passing out, we're going to use it in stockings at Christmas. (nt) - Bonmomof4 4 days ago

Cathy, 34, I will be 36 weeks tomorrow with #4 and I'll include a pic of the candy! - mommacat 4 days ago

So cute! (nt) - janemomofsix 1 hour ago

Spent it in the hospital with 14yo dd who had her appendix out. (nt) - six4me 5 days ago

UGH - yes. The entire time we were shopping at Carter's outlet. (nt) - msjennbug 5 days ago

No, but I was singing carols to the baby last night at bedtime.... (nt) - mama-san 5 days ago

Yep! I used to be the type who was playing it as soon as Halloween was over. Not so much anymore. But I am definitely looking forward to celebrating the holidays in our new home this year!! (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

We played it this weekend ( see above) we did our Christmas decorating ;) (nt) - Julieworkingon8 5 days ago

Yes. I arrived at the tailend of a jumble sale at church on Saturday, where they were playing carols. (nt) - mini-mug 5 days ago

Christmas music is played year round in our house! The kids love it and listen to the CDs all the time. We also watch Christmas videos year round too!! (nt) - mommacat 4 days ago

Not yet, but I expect it any day! LOL! That said, all the stores are filled with Christmas stuff and everywhere is talking about the holidays. (nt) - Mirz 3 days ago

one in Chicago, but I can't remember which b/c there were so many very tall buildings to visit there (nt) - queenmommy911 5 days ago

I have been to Chicago many times, and I *think* I went up in the John Hancock building at least once. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

The "green" building in downtown Dallas. - msjennbug 5 days ago

*~*~*~*~* Monday Polls -- Who's the Chef at Your House? You? DH? One of the Kids? Team Effort? Who Will Be Cooking or Who Did Cook Thanksgiving Dinner? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

While I cook all the meals and cooked Thanksgiving dinner, I'm no chef, DH does more gourmet on the rare occaision he cooks. (nt) - 2Bmommy25 5 days ago

I'm the one who does most of the cooking, but DH is the turkey, dressing and gravy chef b/c he loves Thanksgiving dinner so much (nt) - queenmommy911 5 days ago

DH is closest to chef at our house because he has worked in restaurants for more than 17 years and likes to create things like chefs do. I cook but prefer to have a recipe to follow which is probably reminiscent of the baking taught to me by my grandmother and what I prefer (DH does not bake at all). The two oldest kids are interested in cooking as well, but I usually get stuck doing all of the holiday cooking. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

definitely a team effort. (nt) - msjennbug 5 days ago

I am the chef and my MIL will be cooking this year. I will make a couple things to bring though. (nt) - mama-san 5 days ago

It's all me all the time (although the kids are beginning to learn). My mom is the Thanksgiving chef, though. (We all bring something) (nt) - wantabunch 5 days ago

I cook most often, but dh makes more elaborate dinners - he just enjoys it more. I prefer baking. We go to my grandmother's or his parents' for Thanksgiving. (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

team effort but dh loves to cook holiday meals (nt) - Christine 5 days ago

I do ALL the cooking with the help of my 9yr old she loves helping her momma cook. Going to the inlaws for Thanksgiving I'am sure I will help but MIL will do the bulk. (nt) - Julieworkingon8 5 days ago

me, i do all the cooking..jason can whip up a mean box of mac n cheese or bowl of cereal but that's about it and i'll be making thanksgiving dinner as well (nt) - serialmommy 5 days ago

Usually I am the chef, but often it's a team effort and occassionally the kids will pitch in too (nt) - duedrop 5 days ago

I am the resident chef, Dh is the "griller", small kids are the salad preparers, the 2 eldest boys are great with sauces and fried chicken. Dd #1 is a fabulous baker and Dd #2 can cook just about anything- she has that natural instinct! (nt) - canadianmom 4 days ago

Moi. Though, my 10 y/o son is a chef-in-training. He does the majority of cooking when I am not home. (nt) - Mirz 3 days ago

*~*~*~*~* Monday Polls -- Do You Like Gravy? White or Brown? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

Nope. I've never developed a taste for gravy. I don't like salt or pepper, or cokes, either. I have developed a recent addiction for frappucinos, though. (nt) - I am blessed 5 days ago

I like gravy - mostly prefer white sausage gravy on biscuits rather than the brown stuff DH loves for turkey and chicken (nt) - queenmommy911 5 days ago

I love milk gravy! I don't care for the dark brown stuff. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

Yes - depends on what it's ON. I like cream gravy on my potatoes, most of the time. (nt) - msjennbug 5 days ago

I'm not fanatical or anything, but yes, I like them both. (nt) - wantabunch 5 days ago

I like both. (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

brown gravies for meat for dinner, white gravy for breakfast foods... (nt) - serialmommy 5 days ago

I do now, wouldn't eat it as a kid for nothing! I like brown gravy on hamburger steaks and mash potatoes. Love sausage gravy on bisquits!!! (nt) - mommacat 4 days ago

brown for meats & biscuits, white with veggies and red (tomato)with potato cutlets (nt) - canadianmom 4 days ago

Mmmmm..... Gravy.... Both kinds, please. (nt) - Mirz 3 days ago

*~*~*~*~* Monday Polls -- How Long Was Your Shortest Labor and Which Child Was It? How Long Was Your Longest Labor and Which Child Was It? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

I get induced every time so they're all about the same. It takes them a while to kick start my labor with pitocin and breaking my water then the baby comes after a couple of hrs of what I call "real" labor, ie pain. I usually go in around 8 am and have a baby by 3 pm. (nt) - I am blessed 5 days ago

Baby #2, my oldest DS, was my shortest at 2 hours(too fast and hard to keep control), Baby #3, my 2nd DD, was my longest at 15 hours (much more tolerable even though it was longer) (nt) - 2Bmommy25 5 days ago

With most of them it was about 4 hours, but my 2nd DD was threatening to come for 4 days before I finally gave in and went for the "whiff" of pitocin that had her here in 4 hours (nt) - queenmommy911 5 days ago

I have been induced with pitocin for five of mine and with cytotec for one. I don't count the time it takes for the contractions to kick in and regulate. I only count "hard labor." #2 and #3 tie for shortest at about three hours of hard labor. #1 was longest at about five hours of hard labor. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

Shortest is a tie between #1 and #4 - 4hours. Longest would be #5 - 19hrs. (nt) - msjennbug 5 days ago

Shortest was #2 at 1.5 hours--WAY too fast and WAY too hard/painful. I was so scared to have another baby after that. The other 3 were all around 12 hours (mostly just waiting around). #1-3 were all spontaneous rupture of membranes (first one at work, LOL). #4 was induced. (nt) - wantabunch 5 days ago

Shortest was 4 hours, my third child, Jack. Longest would probably be my oldest - she was a preemie. She was due on St. Pat's but started trying to make her way here on Christmas Eve. I was in and out of labor (they managed to stop it several times)from then until she was born on February 9th. (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

#6 (Ashton) was my quickest labour at just under 2 hrs from waters breaking till birth and my longest was #1 (Lorinda) at 10hrs from 1st contraction till birth. (nt) - duedrop 5 days ago

This is tough....as my longest labor was just over 2 hours that was for # 3 he was sunny side up and had very bad back labor,# 1 was 1hr 40 mins... All my other children were under that....#5 the Dr. did not make it into the room in time, and cut it close for #4,6,& 7 thus being the reason I desperatly want a homebirth for the next child. - Julieworkingon8 5 days ago

shortest would have been my very first, my birth daughter..the only one i wasn't induced for (aside from the twins), and from the time i went to the hospital until she was born it was about 3 hours...the longest was the 3 day induction hell that was my birth with izzy (nt) - serialmommy 5 days ago

longest = #1 @ 5 hours. Shortest was #6 @ 45 minutes-induced. nt - jessica_momof7 5 days ago

30 hours. In that time I only progressed to 4cm, so I ended up with a c-section. Nothing to compare it to, since she's my only! (nt) - Imzadi 5 days ago

My shortest was my last #3 which from water breaking to he was here was 3 hours and 45 min, my longest was my first which from first contraction to he was here was 8 hours and 50 minutes. I'm scared how fast this one will come!!! (nt) - mommacat 4 days ago

Shortest was #4, induction from start of pitocin to birth was a little less than 8 hours. Longest was #1, 14 hours, also an induction, from start of pitocin to birth. It always takes me all day to give birth! 2 and 3 were long too! (nt) - Bonmomof4 4 days ago

Shortest labor was my last, about 8 hours. Longest was #1--36 hours! (nt) - Mirz 3 days ago

Shortest #4 (emergency c-section) Longest #2 Noah was sunny side up. I know I pushed for over 2 1/2 hours. nt - janemomofsix 19 hours ago

*~*~*~*~* Monday Polls -- Have You Ever Dressed Up Like A Pilgrim for Thanksgiving or Any Other Reason? *~*~*~*~* (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

Nope and don't plan to either. (nt) - I am blessed 5 days ago

Maybe for a class play in 2nd or 3rd grade...memory is hazy, but I remember making the hats... (nt) - queenmommy911 5 days ago

I think I did several times in grade school for Thanksgiving plays. I know my children have also dressed up for Thanksgiving plays. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

I don't think so. (nt) - msjennbug 5 days ago

Not that I'm aware of....LOL (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

yes, in the 2nd grade (nt) - Christine 5 days ago

nope, and not going to either (nt) - serialmommy 5 days ago

Nope, not that I can remember! (nt) - Mirz 3 days ago

7. My poor DH is syphoning deisel out of the petrol tank of my little car that DD#1 inadvertantly filled up with this evening! He is such a good man, poor Lorinda has cried herself to sleep in my part of the bed! (nt) - duedrop 5 days ago (3)

Aww, poor kid....we all make mistakes like that as we learn. (((Lorinda))) Kudos to dh for handling it so well! (nt) - magnificent7 5 days ago

Sounds like something my oldest DD would do. (((HUGS))) to Lorinda (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

8. Please tell me your lice survival stories. . . (m) - wildrose 5 days ago (16)

Praying for you Jen! It seems so irrational that something so small can drive you to the brink of insanity, but that's exactly how they made me feel. I wanted to throw my entire house in the trash and start over. I did throw away all hair brushes, combs, and hair accessories. I washed and washed and washed the bedding and clothes. I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed everything (don't know what I would do now that I want everything to be au naturale!). I picked and picked and picked for weeks on end. If you find more on the one that was really bad, I would put olive oil in her hair or mayonnaise or whatever you're using to suffocate them and leave it on overnight in the shower cap. Good luck and lots and lots and lots of prayers! (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

I feel for you. --m - Mirz 5 days ago

Jen, I didn't mention it in my post but if you get desperate there is a prescription that my kids' np gave me the last two times we got it. It's called Ovide. It is a very strong chemical though, so you've got to consider whether or not you are willing to expose the kids to it. (nt) - ckmom 5 days ago

I wish I had heard about that a few years back It really took us a long time to get rid of them ;( good to know. (nt) - Julieworkingon8 5 days ago

I goodness I really feel for you (m) - Julieworkingon8 5 days ago

i dealt with this all last month! i'm not sure where they came from, but they drive me batty!! a good prevention tip, add tea tree oil, you can get a bottle at walmart for around $8 and you only use about 1/4 of it on the generous side, to your shampoo...not everyone's shampoo, but one bottle that everyone uses once a week...and 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol works REALLY well...it kills the live bugs and eats away at the glue of the eggs...also get a metal lice comb..anywhere that has a pharmacy has them...they are great in helping to comb through hair (nt) - serialmommy 4 days ago

w/ the alcohol you put it on wet hair like shampoo and let it sit for about 5 min...it smells horrid and has bad fumes..you'll want a dry wash cloth held at the hair line to protect the eyes and to have windows open to help with the smell/fumes (nt) - serialmommy 4 days ago

Yes, when you use alcohol, make sure you have the windows open. We also put a couple of fans in the room to keep the air moving. (nt) - Mirz 4 days ago

We used vinegar to release the eggs. We did an initial rinse with 50/50 vinegar & water solution yesterday and then have some in a spray bottle to spray as needed while picking nits. Doesn't smell quite as bad! lol (nt) - wildrose 4 days ago

DAY 2 . . . .(m) - wildrose 4 days ago

Ahhhh!!! when ever anyone says lice ...I get these ichy , crawly feelings in my hair..wishing you success in getting rid of them...once i worked in a children's emergency shelter & we had to deal with lice regularly.. (nt) - mum2adozen 3 days ago

First and foremost my heart goes out to you..We had this when my twins were newborns and I homeschool as well. The best thing that worked for us was the lice and knit zapper. Not sure what the real name is but it worked great. (nt) - mom2twelve 4 days ago

DAY 3 - so far, so good. Everything off our heads should be dead by now so I'm cautiously hopeful. Thanks again ladies!! (nt) - wildrose 3 days ago

i'm feeling really worn down lately...weird sleep schedules for me and taking care of the kids all day, with nursing the twins and me not eating well, a very naughty and destructive 3 year old...it's all just UGH (nt) - serialmommy 2 days ago

When the one's I have fall apart!!! (nt) - mommacat 2 days ago

i don't have any..our main bath that we use is TINY so no room for one and to be able to close the door, not to mention izzy ALWAYS gets the floor soaking wet with his baths, the older kids and jason aren't the greatest about making sure the shower curtain is all the way closed and get water on the floor as well...i just toss a once or twice used towel on the floor so i don't slip and fall and crack my head, then it gets tossed in the dirty clothes (nt) - serialmommy 2 days ago

*@*@*@*@* Would you rather be too hot or too cold? *@*@*@*@* (nt) - Christine yesterday, 02:03AM

I'd rather be too cold - you can always add layers of clothing/blankets, but you've only got so much you can take off...LOL! (nt) - queenmommy911 yesterday, 02:28AM

Gotta Park here with ya on this one.....LOL (nt) - SevenMs yesterday, 02:35AM

Totally agree!!!!!! (nt) - mommacat yesterday, 02:51AM

parking here. (nt) - jakikoripiba yesterday, 04:16AM

I HATE being hot! It makes me very irritable and grouchy. I don't like being cold either but handle it better than being hot. (nt) - ckmom yesterday, 03:00AM

AGREED! I told my husband if he wanted to be happily married he needed to move me north. I'm a difficult woman in the summer heat. (nt) - tiddlywinks yesterday, 03:06AM

Me too!! (nt) - wildrose yesterday, 05:44AM

Definitely here for me too. (And I work with an office full of people who are only happy if it's about 100' in there!) (nt) - mini-mug 7 hours ago

Neither. Move me to Hawaii! (nt) - joyofsix yesterday, 05:30AM

too cold is the way to go for me...being hot makes me very grouchy and cranky! in the summer i get migraines from the heat (nt) - serialmommy 21 hours ago

Too hot for sure! I can't function when I'm too cold and I can always cool down but I can't warm up. (nt) - duedrop 18 hours ago

Same here. Don't you hate it when your feet get cold? That's the worst! (nt) - room4more 12 hours ago

I guess I'm odd. I HATE the cold. I'd take a HOT day any day over an even slightly cold day, and don't even get me going on cold wind....ugh! (nt) - room4more 12 hours ago

This Canuck hates the cold! Move me to the Middle East and let me soak up the heat! (nt) - canadianmom 6 hours ago

*@*@*@*@* What food do you only eat in the summer? In the winter? *@*@*@*@* (nt) - Christine yesterday, 02:06AM

I'm pretty much a year-round eater. Hehe! I guess we skip the popsicles in winter and wouldn't do much chili in summer... (nt) - queenmommy911 yesterday, 02:35AM

Chili and soups are winter foods around here and summer only well that would be watermelon and cantaloupe I guess because you can't really get them in Winter!! (nt) - mommacat yesterday, 02:59AM

Sweet corn on the cob is something we usually only get in summer here. Soups and stews are usually winter foods here too. (nt) - ckmom yesterday, 03:09AM

More fruit and salad in summer, more soup in winter. But if someone else cooks it I'll eat most anything. (nt) - joyofsix yesterday, 05:32AM

it has to be chilly out to eat a hot soup...smores are only for summer because we make them outside on our grill... (nt) - serialmommy 21 hours ago

*@*@*@*@* What is your perfect weather? *@*@*@*@* (nt) - Christine yesterday, 02:06AM

Early spring - sunny and warm, but not too warm yet, though I do enjoy late summer rain, too... (nt) - queenmommy911 yesterday, 02:37AM

I'm gonna camp here with you. It gets so hot in the summers here that I like the little spring weather we get. (nt) - mommacat yesterday, 02:58AM

Right now! Crisp cool sunny fall days. Love it! (nt) - tiddlywinks yesterday, 03:03AM

Spring/Fall weather - 70-80 degrees or so. Not too hot, not too cold. I like rain, too. (nt) - wantabunch yesterday, 03:05AM

I almost parked with Alison, but I'll pass on the rain. I like mid to upper 70s or lower 80s with a nice breeze and lots of sunshine. Is there anywhere that's like that all year round? I'd love to visit in the dead of our Midwest winter. (nt) - ckmom yesterday, 03:10AM

I agree. Mid 70's, dry and sunny. Not humid. Not rainy. Not cold. Not icy. Why do I live in IN? (nt) - joyofsix yesterday, 05:34AM

Upper 60s-low 70s, sunny with little to no wind. I do like the crisp cold of winter though too. (nt) - wildrose yesterday, 05:49AM

60-70...blue skies...perfect for being outside..thankfully in michigan, we get about 1/2 the year like that...if you figure spring and fall... (nt) - serialmommy 21 hours ago

extreme heat! I only like dry heat though, I'm not a big fan of muggyness (nt) - duedrop 18 hours ago

~65'f/18'c. Blue sky with a few clouds, light breeze. Lovely. (nt) - mini-mug 7 hours ago

Also a fan of Spring /Fall 70'-80' is perfect for me ....NOT a fan of the cold or humidity. (nt) - Julieworkingon8 27 minutes ago
