Managing a large family is a challenge, especially in today's 2-kid-per-household world. But what if your family equals TWO large families: say 8, or 10, or 15 children? Having a mega-family poses particular challenges that even "small" large families don't encounter, including travel in an extended-size van, serious household space issues, dealing with vast age differences, and many more. This board is here so mega-families can talk about the things that are unique to larger than large family life. Any mega-family, be it through birth, adoption, or blending, is invited to join!

Michele, 34, Andy 37, 10 kids, I wear a 9 or a 10 depending on the style of shoe. (nt) - canadianmom 07/01/2009 09:25

Michelle and Jimmy, 8 kiddos, 5-6 depending on shoe (nt) - my8angels 07/01/2009 12:59

Plus 2 extra kiddos who had no where to live. (nt) - my8angels 07/01/2009 13:02

Michele, 36, David 48, 9 kiddos. My shoe size...ugg....I just have to mention that I started out PRE kids at a woman's 9......but today, 9 kids later, I'm a mans 11. Oh well, they are worth clown feet, but I do kinda cringe when I see cute shoes and know that the only thing that would actually fit my land skis are the boxes they come in...lol! (nt) - room4more 07/01/2009 17:59

Michelle, 39, Jim and 8 kiddos. I typically wear an 8 wide, but am pushing into a 9. (nt) - Mirz 07/02/2009 00:08

Shari, 45 & Lance 46 , 12 kids. I wear an 8. (nt) - mum2adozen 07/02/2009 03:57

I just looked at all these Michelle's lined up...I'm the odd one today... (nt) - mum2adozen 07/02/2009 04:15

We really do need to figure out what the connection is with the name Michel(l)e and large families...huh? (nt) - room4more 07/02/2009 04:46

I think it means "breeder"LOL (nt) - canadianmom 07/02/2009 05:57

Kathy, 38, and Rob, 44 with 10 kids. I'm an 8 most of the time. (nt) - duedrop 07/02/2009 18:15

There is never a shortage of smiles and laughter and hugs and kisses. (nt) - canadianmom 07/01/2009 09:28

the love (nt) - my8angels 07/01/2009 13:07

I love the abundant sense of life in the house. (nt) - room4more 07/01/2009 17:29

Seeing how different and unique each child is. I'm amazed at the range of interests, talents, and personalities between the kids! It really gives me a lot of joy. (nt) - Mirz 07/02/2009 00:33

Isn't it SO amazing to have SO many little people that are all So different? I don't know what I thought it would be like before we had "all these kids" but I really am amazed that there are no repeats in the personality department. (nt) - room4more 07/02/2009 04:53

you've said it all & said it well (nt) - mum2adozen 07/02/2009 04:07

*~*~* What's the Worst Part of Being A Mega Mom? *~*~* - Admin 07/01/2009 08:03

The assumptions made by others about how attention starved my kids must be, you know the shpeel. (nt) - canadianmom 07/01/2009 09:31

remarks made by others (nt) - my8angels 07/01/2009 13:06

......sometimes that abundant sense of life makes me feel like I am hanging by a thread of insanity. (nt) - room4more 07/01/2009 17:30

The noise level. Honestly, I don't really need it to be quiet or have a big need to be alone. However, there are times when I really need 10 minutes of peace to unwind, and sometimes I can't get that. (nt) - Mirz 07/02/2009 00:35

me, too....me, too (nt) - mum2adozen 07/02/2009 04:08

*~*~* What's the Easiest Part of Being A Mega Mom? *~*~* - Admin 07/01/2009 08:03

cooking!! (nt) - canadianmom 07/01/2009 09:37

Really!? I mean, I love to cook, but after a lot of meals I feel like I just ran a cooking marathon. (nt) - room4more 07/01/2009 17:35

I thrive on it! For me it is tremendously relaxing to cook and bake. (nt) - canadianmom 07/02/2009 06:01

I guess I'm in a mood tonight, because I just keep thinking ~ it doesn't get much easier than when they are all in a small and confinded space, like on the couch watching a movie, in the car or even better....in bed for the night! (nt) - room4more 07/01/2009 17:42

Socializing. We have always been a family of talkers. With so many people, we can sit around and talk for hours on everything from Pokemon and cartoons to religion and politics. (nt) - Mirz 07/02/2009 00:37

I wanted to add to this general socialization and entertainment. --m - Mirz 07/02/2009 07:15

there's ALWAYS someone to play with or something to do...I tell my kids "Bored" is a bad word (nt) - mum2adozen 07/03/2009 06:30

If I ever said I was bored to my mother, I got the "I have plenty for you to do", then I would get handed a dust rag or a bottle of Windex and paper towels! (nt) - canadianmom 07/03/2009 09:29

I don't know...I enjoy cooking..it certainly pays to do it...But I also enjoy having people around ...we can get a lot done in short order.. (nt) - mum2adozen 07/02/2009 04:11

*~*~* What's the Hardest Part of Being A Mega Mom? *~*~* - Admin 07/01/2009 08:03

Lately making sure (financially) all our needs are met. It is a big task for 12 people. Generally-Laundry (nt) - canadianmom 07/01/2009 09:40

My answers tied with this one as being the hardest. (nt) - Mirz 07/02/2009 00:40

I need more time in some of my days. (nt) - my8angels 07/01/2009 13:03

The thing I worry the most about is making sure everyone's need get met, collectively and individually. We are to the point we have teens, pre-teens, middle aged and littles in the house, some days I feel like my head is about to explode trying to switch gears on who I'm dealing with and what they want/need from me.... (nt) - room4more 07/01/2009 17:51

This is where I am...teens & toddlers & kids in the middle...sigh ...so many needs...but I do believe with the help of God ,it can be done (nt) - mum2adozen 07/02/2009 04:13

Space. Meaning, being able to provide ample space for the whole group. --m - Mirz 07/02/2009 00:39
