No image
Description:
This is a great treat to make during the summer months. For larger families, you may have to do 2-3 rounds, all at once or one-at-a-time. Try doing a special Fourth of July version making three batches: vanilla, strawberry and blueberry flavors!

Ingredients:

What you'll need:
1 1-lb metal coffee can with lid
1 3-lb metal coffee can with lid
Rock salt
Crushed Ice

Ingredients:
1 pint of half and half (can use milk for lower-fat version)
1/2 cup sugar
Flavoring: 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract or 2 tbsp of chocolate syrup or 1/4 cup of strawberries or 1/4 cup of blueberries
Directions:
  1. Combine all of the ingredients in the 1 lb coffee can and mix well. Put the lid on the coffee can and secure with duct tape. Place the 1 pound coffee can into the 3 pound coffee can. Surround with crushed ice and rock salt and place the lid onto the 3 pound coffee can.

  2. Now have your kids kick the can back and forth. They should be about 3 to 4 feet apart. In the alternative, they kids can roll in back and forth that distance. Roll for 8 to 10 minutes. Check to see if ice cream is hard (or the consistency you like). If not, add more ice and salt, replace lid, and kick around another 5-10 minutes. Remove lid and serve.
