 Most of us have heard the idea of "coupon books" for gifts. It's a way of giving a gift of non-tangible things, like time and privileges. As I was considering doing this for my own kids, I had to stop and consider what would they really like from me. Sure, getting another half an hour up at bedtime would be nice, but was there something they would like more? After a bit of thought, I realized that one of the things they love the most is me...or more accurately time alone with me. Being in a big family does help kids to be more independent and need less hands-on. But it doesn't change the fact that they want one-on-one time with mom and dad. In some ways, since time is at such a premium, that alone time is even more precious than traditional gifts. So, I came up with the "Just Me" coupon book. Kids are not the only ones who like some alone time. These coupons can be given to spouse, friends, or extended family. I have created several different coupons. One for boys, one for girls, and a variety of others. I have also included "school" coupon, which could be used by teachers or in your homeschool. I got this idea from my son's teacher who used to give out "free homework" passes to kids as rewards for good behavior. Also, there is a blank coupon template form, which you can decorate yourself with stickers or your own drawings. Note: Just because the coupons are called "Just Me" doesn't mean you can't use them for more abstract things other than just time with you.
